A nestling hawksbill sea turtle was found at Brgy. Catagman, Samal District, Island Garden City of Samal last November 2, 2008 at around 11 pm.The unstoppable barking of the dog compeled the San Juan brothers (Romualdo, Inocencio and Rogelio), to check what was happening outside their house and found a nestling hawksbill turtle which prompted them to call the attention of the barangay souncil. The barangay council right away informed the concerned offices of the local government of Island Garden City of Samal. Immediately Dr. Edunel Sala of City veterinary Office, Bong Montera of City Fisheries and Aquatic Management Office and Paulino Arafol of City Environment and Natural Resources Office went to the area and conducted a physical check up to the turtle. A number of barnacles in its head and carapace were found. The carapace width measured 28" and length 30" and approximately weighted 30 kiloograms.. The sea turtle seemed generally healthy, thus the team released the sea turtle back to the sea. |
